The International Women’s Day Celebration started on March 8, 2014 with a panel discussion titled “Empowering Women to overcome Social and Economic Challenges in Egypt”. The panel was coordinated by the US Embassy in Cairo-Cultural Affairs Section and USAID and hosted at Microsoft Premises.

The panel was facilitated by Ghada Khalifa, Citizenship Lead at Microsoft. Joining feature speakers from different backgrounds including; Ghada Abdelaal-Author of “Aiza Atgawez” (Literature/Arts), Rania Hasanein-Specialist in blood transfusion services (Health/Technology), Dr. Boshra Salem-Director of the Desert Sector, Alexandria University (Environment) and Reham Abu Elenein, Chairman - Founder at CaiCot Textiles and Business Development Manager (East Africa) at Consukorra Group (Entrepreneurship).

Panelists included prominent Egyptians who have participated in Exchange Programs of the U.S. Embassy. And audience included live and virtual audience as the panel was broadcasted online through live stream using Microsoft online platforms and Aspire Woman Clubs members were able to join and participate in the discussion.

The speakers  discussed challenges that women face in Egypt and successful strategies for overcoming these challenges, in addition, identifying those lessons learned by women who have risen to the top of the profession, both in terms of how to run a great successful career and what the uniquely female perspective brings to career planning.

This discussion helped to mark the economic, political and social achievements of women.
